We had a fantastic time this afternoon in the company of Rob Mitchell form Sports for Champions. Pupils took part in exercises with him and had a chance to ask him about his career as a professional athlete.

We have raised £1000 which will be shared between Sports For Champions and Ysgol Bryn Onnen.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed.

Urdd Centenary celebrations

The Urdd is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. This is a fantastic achievement for an organisation that has provided amazing opportunities for children from Ysgol Bryn Onnen and all parts of Wales.

To celebrate the centenary Ysgol Bryn Onnen will join children from across Wales in trying to break a Guinness World Record by singing “Hey Mr Urdd” on the 25th of January.

Help your children to learn the song and dance by following this link.

Dydd Miwsig Cymru

Advance notice that the annual Welsh Music day is on February 4th. Why not use the time leading up to the event listening to Welsh music with your children.

Covid-19

There have been some changes to how we are expected to respond to cases of Covid-19.

Anyone (adult or child over 5) who has symptoms for Covid-19 should get a PCR test and isolate until they get the results.

If the test is positive, follow advice from track and Trace and isolate for 7 days.

Anyone with no symptoms who tests positive on a lateral flow test should start isolating for 7 days immediately. There is no need to go for a PCR.

If we have one positive case in a class we will send an “Inform letter” to all parents/guardians in that class.

If we have two positive cases in a class we will send a “Warn and Inform letter”. This

letter strongly advises all parents/guardians in that class to do lateral flow tests on

their children for the next 7 days.

We have some sets of LFTs available in school for this but parents should try to get

their own from the pharmacy if possible.

It is likely that this guidance will be changed as the term progresses. We will keep all parents informed via the newsletter and Schoop.

Maternity Leave

Two members of staff will be taking maternity leave soon. Mrs Jones will start her maternity leave on January 26th. Miss Sheppard will be covering Mrs Jones’s position until she returns in March 2023

Miss Long has already started her maternity leave. Until the summer her role will be filled by Miss Melville who will be working in a number of classes.

We wish both Miss Long and Mrs Jones the best of luck.

The canteen is now providing fruit again; 30p per day.
