Annwyl Riant / Warcheidwad,
Pontio Gwynllyw
Ddoe aethon ni i Ysgol Gwynllyw i ddechrau paratoi am flwyddyn 7. Roedden ni wedi cwrdd a phlant o Gwmbran, Panteg, Bro Helyg a’r Fenni.
Cafon ni weithdai drama a celf – redden nhw yn dda iawn. Yn y gweithdy drama roedden ni chwarae gemau er mwyn dod i adnabod pobl o ysgolion eraill. Yn celf roedden ni wedi tynnu llun o darian Aborigine gyda bathodyn yr ysgol ac ein gobeothion am y dyfodol.
Yn y prynhawn cerfion ni llythyren gyntaf ein enw allan o blasting i gael profiad o rhai o’r adnoddau y byddwn yn defnyddio ym mlwyddyn 7. Yn olaf cafon ni wers gerddoriaeth. Dysgon ni Yma o Hyd a perfformio gyda offerynau.
Roeddwn yn gyffrous iawn am fynd i Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw a cael gweld pa bethau arall y byddwn yn gwneud.

Trip Bl 3 a 5 i Sain Ffagan
Ar ddydd Mercher aeth blynyddoedd 3 a 5 i Sain Ffagan. Gwelon ni Llys Llywelyn. Dyma y castell lle roedd y Tywysog Llewelyn yn byw. Roedd Llywelyn wedi teithio i wledydd arall ac ymladd. Roedden ni wedi gwisgo lan fel cymeriadau o’r stori. Carter oedd Llywelyn, Pippa oedd yr offeiriad a Max. Roedd Carter wedi priodi Emjai oherwydd hi oedd Siwan.
Cwricwlwm i Gymru
Wythnos nesaf bydd Llywodraeth Cymru yn cyhoeddi Cwricwlwm i Gymru. Bydd llawer o gyhoeddusrywdd yn cael ei roi i hyn ac mae’n bosib y bydd ychydig yn ddryslud ar brydiau.
Yn ystod yr wythnosau nesaf byddaf yn rhannu ychydig o wybodaeth am sut bydd y cwricwlwm yn effeithio’r ysgol a pha newidiadau y gallwn ddisgwyl eu gweld.
Byddwn yn cynnal dyddiau agored y tymor hwn ac yn nhymor yr haf i ddangos i rieni sut y byddwn yn cyflwyno y cwricwlwm newydd.
Yn greiddiol i’r cwricwlwm mae y 4 Pwrpas;
Dysgwyr uchelgeisiol
Dysgwyr mentrus creadigol
Disgyblion egwyddorol
Disgyblion iach a hyderus
Dyma sut yr hoffem i bob disgybl sydd yn gadael Ysgol Bryn Onnen fod.
Yn y cwricwlwm newydd bydd pynciau traddodiadol yn cael eu rhannu yn 6 Ardal Dysgu a Phrofiad;
Dyniaethau
Celfyddydau Mynegianol
Gwyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg
Iechyd a lles
Llythrenedd a Chyfathrebu
Mathemateg a rhifedd
Pwrpas hyn yw i alluogi disgyblion i weld cysylltiadau rhwng pynciau. Bydd hyn yn golygu fod y disgyblion yn dysgu mwy trwy themau a phrojectau bach yn hytrach na gwersi unigol mewn unrhyw bwnc.
Y gwahaniaeth mwyaf yw bydd disgwyl i ysgolion unigol gynllunio cwricwlwm unigryw ar gyfer yr ysgol yn hytrach nap hob ysgol yn dilyn yn union yr un cwricwlwm.
Yn amlwg mae nifer o bethau fel darllen, sillafu, a sgiliau rhif y bydd raid i bawb ddysgu ond mydd modd canolbwyntio ar bethau lleol a cyfoes sydd o ddiddordeb i’r disgyblion.
Er mwyn cynllunio y cwricwlwm byddwn yn gofyn am syniadau rhieni – bydd y Cyngor Ysgol yn gwneud hyn dros yr wythnosau nesaf.
Gwynllyw Transition Day
Yesterday we went to Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw to start preparing for Year 7. We met up with pupils from Panteg, Bro Helyg and Cwmbran. We had drama and art workshops that were really exciting. In the drama workshop we played games that helped us to learn names of other children. In art we drew Aboriginal shields showing the school and our hopes for the future.
In the afternoon we carved the first letter of our names out of plastic to give us experience of some of the tools we will be using in Year 7. Finally we had a music lesson where we learnt the words to Yma o Hyd and we performed the song with instruments.
We are really excited about going back to Gwynllyw and seeing what other new things we can do there.

Year 3 and 5 trip to St Fagans
On Wednesday Year 3 and 5 went to Sain Ffagan to see the court of Prince Llywelyn. In the court we pretended we lived in the time of the Welsh Princes. Carter was Llywelyn, Pippa and Max were bishops. Carter had to marry Emjai because she was Siwan.

Curriculum for Wales
Next Tuesday Welsh Government will be publishing the new Curriculum for Wales. This is sure to gain a large amount of attention in the media, some of which may be confusing to parents at first.
Over the coming weeks I will share a little bit of information at a time about the new curriculum so that everyone is informed but not overwhelmed by too much information.
We will also be running an open day this term and in the Summer Term to demonstrate to parents how the new curriculum will work.
The new curriculum is built around what is being called the Four Purposes.
The Four Purposes are;
Ambitious and capable learners
Enterprising creative contributors
Ethical citizens
Healthy confident individuals
The way we see it, this is what we want our pupils to be like when they leave Ysgol Bryn Onnen. All topics and lessons the children have in their time at school will develop them in at least one of the Four Purposes.
In the new curriculum traditional subjects will be split into 6 Areas of Learning and Experience (AOLE).
The six areas are;
Humanities
Wellbeing
Creative Arts
Maths and numeracy
Literacy and communication
Science and Technology
The reason for moving from individual subjects to AOLEs is to help children see how subjects are linked and to stop them from being taught in isolation. Basically this means teaching in topics and small projects.
The biggest difference with the new curriculum will be that every school is expected to develop its own curriculum rather than a one size fits all approach. Clearly there will be a number of things like spelling, reading and basic number skills that all schools need to teach but we will also be able to teach more about the local area and things that are of interest to the pupils e.g. Year 6 at the moment are studying bushfires in Australia because they have heard so much about it on the news.
We would like to gather ideas from parents about what they think is important for their children to learn and what experiences they should have during their time at Ysgol Bryn Onnen. The school council will be collecting ideas from parents over the coming weeks.
Mwynhewch y penwythnos.
Enjoy the weekend!
Yr eiddoch yn gywir / Yours sincerely,
Mr. Rh ap Gwyn
Pennaeth / Headteacher
