Dear Parent / Guardian,
Walk to School Week
Next week is Walk to School Week. It is difficult for many of our pupils to walk to school because of the distance and the busy road beside the school. However, we would like to encourage as many pupils as possible to walk to school, or part of the way to school, once during the week. On Friday, May 19th a group of staff will walk from the end of Samson Avenue along the footpath to school. If any families would like to join us, please meet at 8 30. The Breakfast Club staff have kindly agreed to provide toast and juice for any pupils who walk, cycle or scoot to school on Friday the 19th of May.
School Sport Day
Remember school sports day is scheduled for Friday, May 26th.
Morning nursery, Years 3,4,5 and 6 will have their sports day in the morning.
Afternoon nursery, Derbyn, Year 1 and 2 will have their sports day in the afternoon.
Upbeat workshops
As part of the Creative Arts area of learning Years 3 and 4 have been having drumming workshops with Upbeat. On the 26th of May in the afternoon we would like to invite Year 3 and Year 4 families to see the pupils performing what they have learnt this term. Don’t worry if you have other children participating in sports day as part of the performance will be outside.
Timings for the performances will be shared next week.
Pupil Development Grant/School Essentials Grant
The pupil development grant and school essentials grant are both linked. They enable both the school and families to benefit. Families who are qualified can claim up to £225 per year, per child to spend on school essentials such as uniform and books (in some secondary schools this extends to IT equipment – please check).
In turn the school receives funding (about £1000 per pupil) which goes into our budget to provide educational activities and resources for pupils.
Earlier this week we circulated a letter with information on how to apply for the grant. If you qualify, please complete the form and return to school. Many thanks to those who have done so already.
This does not impact on the Universal Free School Meals currently available to Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils.
In further good news, Torfaen have indicated they intend to roll out free school meals to all Year 3,4,5 and 6 pupils in September.
